Social media has been critical in sharing important resources for the Black Lives Matter movement.
But sometimes good intentions (particularly if you are an ally) can produce unintended negative consequences on social media. Check out our guide on virtual allyship & algorithms to consider some important questions before participating in a social media campaign (throwback to Black Out Tuesday).
It’s important to realize the space that each of us takes up in a greater algorithmic ecosystem (even if you don’t have that many followers, or have a private account), and how we, collectively, influence what gets seen on Instagram and what doesn’t. We hope that the questions outline in this post help guide your posting choices.
Our next post will be looking at the hidden history of the Black Out social media campaign, and we’ll have a Medium blog up soon exploring this topic in greater detail!
