they know us better than we know ourselves

We leave traces of ourselves everywhere we go on the Internet. Social media platforms gather information about us – from our political opinions and entertainment choices, to the restaurants we go to and who we spend time with. This ability to categorize you into a certain type of consumer, an ‘algorithmic you’, if you will 😉, is the backbone of a trillion-dollar data and advertising industry. ⁣

Do we really have any control over what we see and do online…and offline? Should we be okay with unknowable and unaccountable corporate algorithms knowing our lives? What do #algorithms and other buzzwords actually mean??? These are the questions we aim to explore in our upcoming projects.
